Every injury claim is different, so please rest assured that when you call us, the first thing we will do is listen to you and then offer advice to help you decide whether to proceed with your claim or not.

However, in case you’d like to know more about personal injury claims before you call, here are some of the questions we are most commonly asked.

  • Are you lawyers?
    IL4U – is a national network of specialist lawyers. We take the call initially and put you through to one of the expert lawyers within our network.
  • How much compensation will you take?
    This depends on the type of claim and how much compensation you are awarded, let me take some details from you and the lawyers will be able to give you a good idea.
  • How does IL4U get paid?
    IL4U is a non-for-profit network of reputable and specialist personal injury lawyers and as such, does not make a profit from your claim. Our lawyers work on a “no win no fee” basis, also known as a Conditional Fee agreement. Each case is different and your solicitor will discuss this with you at the onset of your case.
  • Can I get a local lawyer?

However, the vast majority of personal injury claims are progressed without you ever having to meet your lawyer, so regardless of where in the country you live, we have a firm who can advise you.
  • Where are you based?

  • What types of injuries can you claim for?

  • How much money can I receive?
    It is difficult to assess at this time without reviewing the detail of your injuries and how they impacted you. Our panel of expert lawyers are specialists in personal injury and will be able to discuss in detail your injuries, how they affected you and provide you with their initial expert opinion.
  • What happens if I was hit by an uninsured or untraced driver?
    If we are unable to trace the driver responsible for your accident, we will process your claim through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau.

    If the driver at fault for your accident is not insured or cannot be traced, we can still proceed with your claim through an organisation known as the Motor Insurers Bureau. The MIB is an organisation funded through the contributions made by every motor insurance company in the country whose purpose is to pay compensation to innocent victims of an accident in these circumstances.

  • Slips, trips and falls
    Supermarket – If you have slipped on a wet floor in say, a supermarket, and there were no warning notices in sight, then the owner of the store could be found to have been negligent.

    Workplace – If your employer has failed in their duty to maintain a slip-free, even floor and you have sustained an injury after slipping or tripping, then you may be entitled to claim compensation.

  • Will I need a medical?
    It is standard that every personal injury claim will need a report from a medical expert to comment on the nature and extent of your injuries to support your claim. Our expert panel of law firms will arrange this on your behalf with a suitably qualified expert in your location and it’s a very quick and simple process. Any personal injury claims require detailed medical reports, and the more supportive medical evidence we can produce, the stronger your claim will be.
  • What if I have already been seen by my GP, do I still need a medical?
    Even though you have been examined by your GP, we normally require that you be examined by one of our independent medical experts who will verify the nature and extent of your injuries.
  • Will I have to pay for the examination?
    Unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as failing to co-operate with our panel of specialist personal injury lawyers or the claim is proven to be fraudulent, then you will not have to pay for the medical examination and report.
  • Can you still take on my case if I don’t wish to have another medical?
    If this is something you do not feel comfortable with due to the nature of your condition or injury, I would suggest speaking with one of our solicitors and we will work out a solution which takes into account your feelings and concerns.
  • It was an accident, I don’t know if I should claim or not?
    If you are injured in an accident or as a result of someone else’s carelessness, you are entitled to compensation for the pain and suffering you have incurred. It is your decision whether you wish to seek the compensation you are entitled to. We are here to make sure that you get what you are entitled to.
  • I was injured in work, can I make a claim?
    Your employer owes a duty to all their employees to keep them safe from hazard and harm at work. Therefore, as long as you can prove that they breached that duty and their breach caused you damage, you can claim against your employer for an injury sustained while at work.
  • Should I accept an offer of compensation made voluntarily by my employer?
    This is up to you, however, bear in mind that it is highly likely that your employer will offer you less than what you could be awarded if you make a claim and without obtaining a report from the medical expert and having one of our specialist personal injury lawyers assess your claim, it is impossible to accurately assess the value of your claim. If you accept such an offer, there is little chance of reopening negotiations at a later date.
  • Do I need photographs of my injuries?
    The more information you can provide us with regards to the circumstances of your accident and extent of your injuries, the stronger your case will be. It’s helpful to provide us with:
    Any relevant photographs of the site of the accident. Please contact us and we will advise how best to take the relevant, effective photographs.
    Names and addresses of any witnesses
    Police and medical reports

  • What if I decide I don’t wish to proceed?

Because our lawyers work hard to prepare sound, solid cases for clients like you, it is natural that they are likely to incur costs whilst doing so.

In the exceptional circumstances that you unreasonably fail to continue with your claim against the advice of your lawyers, then our lawyers will reserve the right to seek their legal costs from you.

  • Can I claim in the accident happened abroad?
    Yes of course. Accidents happen every day, no matter where in the world you are
  • How many years after an injury can I claim?
    In the UK, there is a general rule that a personal injury claim must be brought within three years of the date the injury occurred or the date in which you realised that your injury was linked to a particular accident. It is important to note that there are numerous exception to the 3 year rule – please contact us for further information.

    However, if you were involved in an accident abroad then different time frames apply within which you must bring your claim. Our expert personal injury lawyers will be able to assist you.

  • How long will my claim take?
    We understand how anxious you are to settle matters and therefore, we make every effort to settle claims as quickly as possible. A simple, uncomplicated claim can be completed within a few months, however each claim is unique and will depend upon the particular circumstances of your accident.
  • Will I need to attend the Lawyers office?
    No not at all. It is in fact rare that you will need to see a lawyer in person. Our lawyers can also gather the facts they need and advise you of the next steps to take entirely by phone, email or post.
  • Can I visit the Lawyers office?
    There is no need to take time out of your busy day to come to us. We have offices nationwide and if you wish, we can come to you.
